The building is labeled "Fremont High School." The image shows a beautiful school building with Spanish-style architecture, featuring a white facade, a bell tower, and arched doorways. The lawn in front is well-maintained, and colorful tulips in red, white, pink, and yellow are blooming in the foreground, adding vibrancy to the scene. Tall trees, including one with dark red leaves, frame the image, and the sky is clear, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere.

1

Inclusivity

All students should have the right to a public education, regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, gender, orientation, or creed.

This belief extends to ensuring that school curriculum remains in the hands of educational experts, not those who would seek to politicize it to advance a non-academic agenda.

2

Collaboration

An effective school board trustee must be able to collaborate with others.

My experience as a public school teacher includes navigating conflict between students, parents, and staff. As a union representative, I have advised administrators and teachers to assist in the resolution of workplace concerns. I may not always agree with you, but I will hear you out, always keeping the district’s best interests foremost in mind.

3

Safety

No matter the context, students need to feel safe in order to learn.

A prepared district takes the lead in fostering the kind of supportive environment where students feel safe confiding to trusted adults. It establishes intervention protocols in advance, and ensures that it has trained mental health counselors to help students who are at risk of harming themselves or others. Mental health is an essential component to overall health.

4

Forethought

Sustained success comes from intentional planning.

We can and should be prioritizing safer commutes, collaborating with municipal agencies, and adequately funding programs that encourage greater accessibility to our schools. As a teacher accustomed to managing and responding to dozens of small challenges a day, I’ll bring that same problem-solving mindset to address potential issues before they balloon into a larger problem.
