About Danny
Professional Background
Danny is a California-certified secondary education teacher at Liberty School of the San Jose Unified School District, where he has worked for the last 9 years. As a faculty member of Liberty’s Alternative School, Danny has had the opportunity to work with students whom the public education system might not have otherwise been able to serve. These students learn in the independent studies program, as for various reasons they may not be able to thrive in a traditional comprehensive environment.
Prior to that, he taught middle school in Sunnyvale and Pescadero. His experience includes teaching English at San Jose State University, developing tests for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and tutoring students for the SAT, ACT, and college admissions. His institutional expertise covers modern educational history, the effects of the No Child Left Behind Law on California State Standards, the IEP process, and the independent studies model within public schools.
Mentorship & Community Involvement
As a tutor, Danny has helped his students gain admission to Stanford, Yale, Brown, and other reputable universities. His approach centers on the whole child, so that the student demonstrates both academic and emotional maturity. In the school environment, he has served as a club advisor at Willow Glen High School, and as a master teacher for student teachers earning their certification.
Danny has also worked for fellow staff members. He has served as the site representative at WGHS and Liberty, advocating for his co-workers in the upholding of their contractual rights. At the site level, he has acted as committee lead on school accreditation groups, helping to formulate and carry out effective practices for an optimal learning environment.
Personal Life
Danny lives in West San Jose with his family, including a son who currently attends Lynbrook High School. His household is patrolled by a dog, and administered by two cats. In their free time, the family enjoys trying out barbeque restaurants, watching superhero movies together, and ranking historical leaders according to various criteria, such as bear-wrestling prowess (Teddy Roosevelt heads many of these lists).
